They say you lose some, you win some. That holds very true in 2011. I was not selected as an emerging leader but just weeks later, by a vote of my peers, I was nominiated and elected as Chair-elect for the campus-wide professional development organization.
As Chair-elect, I won’t actually take helm as Chair until next year. So this year my goal is to learn some stuff and not cause too much trouble and start shopping for my gavel. I considered having my first act implementing that all Executive Board meetings have to follow Parliamentary Procedure but instead I think I might operate by the Pirate Code of Conduct. I didn’t have to develop a platform for the position but if I had, it would’ve looked something like this:
“Every man has a vote in affairs of moment; has equal title to the fresh provisions, or strong liquors, at any time seized, and may use them at pleasure, unless a scarcity (not an uncommon thing among them) makes it necessary, for the good of all, to vote a retrenchment.”(from the Pirate Code of Conduct)
That sounds fair an equitable and who could argue with that?
